Social media is an all new form of media of communication and of businesses. It has recently emerged as a burgeoning empire of mass communication. In our work culture which is largely responsive in nature we need to consider all the answers to the question "why?"
Social media is a prime example of this reactive work culture. It requires a lot of commitment in the form of time. Social media like Facebook, twitter, LinkedIn, blogging or a combination of all of these requires a person to devote honest time to it.
This process, of being equipped with the social media is very crucial and requires proper planning and strategy making. Some of the ways to implement social media strategies are:
Where: This caters to where is the target audience. It means deciding that whether you want a private or a public community. This decision is simply based on where is the target audience.
Why: This means what you want from your organization by undertaking social media. It doesn't caters to the goals of the organization but to the ultimate intentions like, for example whether you want more recruits or you want to create a position in the society by social media.
When and What: A goal that is not measured or that is meant to be finished within a time period and which can't be measured is not a complete goal. Therefore, the goal should be measurable in both quantity as well as quantity.
Duration: Social media is not an experiment but a campaign. You can't stop it like a long term relationship; rather if you are working successfully you would never want to prematurely end it.
Cost: All social media comes with a cost. Even if the form of social media is free you invest your time in it. Private online communities have startup cost but the content is your own.
Friend or foe: While working for yourself you must also keep an eye on what others are doing. One must know how to analyze your competitions.
Content creation: One very important work is to decide what, when, where and how should be your content. It’s the content of the website that gives the basic information to its readers. If they can get it elsewhere they would do so.
Bring joy: In addition to content people also look for a sense of belongingness for the public. They must feel appreciated and at home. Their work must get published and appreciated. They must be allowed to share their views, ideas, thoughts and content and must be solicited for it.
Proper research: Proper research must be conducted by the organizations. You must know which audience you want to target and them you must know the audience, their habits, needs, profiles etc.
Therefore planning a strategy for the social media is very important and more important is planning how to implement that strategy. It is not something to play around in between meetings etc. rather it’s an important tool which can lead to success of the organization and give it an extra edge over the other competitors.
Summary:
Social media is an all new form of media of communication and of businesses. It has recently emerged as a burgeoning empire of mass communication. In our work culture which is largely responsive in nature we need to consider all the answers to the question "why?"
